I was first introduced to the advertising industry as a photographer. I’d been contracted by an art director (thank you Gabrielle Shirdan) to capture images for a campaign. During our initial meeting, Gabrielle asked me “can you handle it?” (i.e. my first advertising gig). I responded with the assertion: “I’ve been to war.”
My role in the advertising industry has changed since that meeting; I now find myself in pursuit of a career as an art director. One thing that hasn't changed is the sentiment of my statement. When I'm faced with a challenge, I'm confident in my abilities to handle it, because among other successes, I've been to war.
